3 birthdays and a lesson on bad friends
3 birthdays in 1 day. Are you impressed? There are so many June babies born on the same day. I went to a birthday lunch, followed by a birthday dinner. It was really nice ant sweet. I was in charge of writing the cards with my messy handwriting and the bf was in charge of the monetary funds. Bacon is always needed and appreciated! I had lunch at Piranha Killer Sushi. It was delish. We had 4 rolls: sexy, birthday, dancing eel, and spider. I love sushi and can probably eat it daily. My older sister says she eats wasabi straight. She a crazy fool. When i got home, i changed to get ready for the dinner. I think they were 2-ish hours apart. So much eating today. The friend lived in dallas, near northpark mall, so we headed to the cheesecake factory up there. It's so far away from home, approximately one hour from my house and quite a drive. I always have the hardest time choosing things to wear. I ended up wearing a black and white dress, very summer-y and paired it with black heels. I straightened my hair and everything was set to go. We arrived just on time for the reservation at 5:30, but realized that we were the first to arrive. Great. Count on Asians to run on Asian time.
I was really peeved. The time was set at 5.30. 3 people showed up on time: me, bf, and friend. The birthday girl also showed up on time, towing a friend and her three kiddos. 25 people were supposed to show up. We couldn't be seated until the majority of the party arrived. Dang. It's your friends birthday. The least you can do is arrive if you said you'd go. People didn't start showing up in full until 2 hours later. I can't believe that. Asian time does not apply when it's something important. You don't arrive late for a funeral, wedding, interview etc. If it's you friend, be there for your friend. Is that so hard to understand? What a crazy concept, i know. The "friends" didn't feel any remorse. They reasoned that their lateness is excused by the distance they had to travel. I call bullshit! I traveled the same exact distance. The only difference is that i showed up on time and not two hours late. That just pisses me off. That is absolutely no way to treat a friend, especially on their birthday. Say sorry and shut your mouth. If you are late, come bearing gifts or wonderful wishes. Don't sit on your butt and complain about being hungry. Your fault, idiots. HOW DARE YOU. How dare you turn the situation and guilt on the birthday girl. Selfish b-stards. I barely know the friend (because i know her through the bf), but i know enough to treat a girl nicely/with respect on her birthday. Ug, they make me sick. I even catch myself scowling as i write this. Birthdays are really important to me. My own birthday isn't but my friends are. I know how it feels to be betrayed by your so called "bff" on your birthday adn end up in tears by the end of the night. I hated that feeling and would never want that to happen to anyone i know/care about. I hope her night ends well. I wrote in her card that she's cool and deserves "cooler" friends. By that, i mean better friends. She will be in my prayers. I sound so religious - lols.
On our drive home, we decided to catch a movie: KUNG FU PANDA. Good thing the ride was lengthy because it gave me enough time to blow off steam. Whew, i needed that ride. Like all prepared asians, we bought snacks at the nearest food store to avoid the high prices at the movie stand. We smuggled in mint ice cream dots! They are yumm.
Let me begin by saying, the brilliance of this movie gave me happy chills. I wasn't sure what i was expecting. I didn't read much on the ratings of this movie, so i was just thinking that it would be sub-par. Ever since the bf and i saw the poster for it, way back when we were watching Balls of Fury, we were anticipating this movie. It did not disappoint at all. Jack Black was wonderful in this movie. It was inspiring and just overall a happy, wonderful, feel-good feeling kind of movie. You leave the movie smiling and wanting more. More food perhaps? Without spoiling anything, all i can say is that this is a must-see movie. I love animated movies and this is an adorable and fantabulous movie that you won't want to miss. You will walk away thinking Po is the ultimate hero of your life. Throughout the movie, i kept thinking of the forgotten red Po of teletubbies. Weird, I know. All in all, i give this a 5/5. LOVE! I want to own this now. When it comes out, i'm getting my hands on the real deal. No bootleg version for moi this time. I'm stepping up!
Stepping up to your responsibilities as a friend, sister, daughter etc. is so important. So when my older sister said i was complaining, ohhh did i get irked. She made a mess in the kitchen early morning and didn't clean up. I told her to clean up and all she did was, "yea." When we were about to leave for our friend's brithday lunch and the house was still a mess, i told her to start cleaning or we aren't moving. Her retort? "I will, stop complaining." It's not like i stood there and waited, i wanted her to help clean the mess she created. Is that too much to ask? Apparently, yes. She dumped the dishes in the sink and made our little brother was them. I know that she has skin problems, but that hasn't stopped her from achiving great things in her life. She's lived her whole life overcoming obstacles. The only obstacle that ways her down is her laziness. Actually, i can name a few more obstacles, but i think that's the main one. I don't want to get petty and nitpicky. After all, she is my older sister. Like it or not, i love the bugger. Like anyone else in my family, i'd do anything for her. Sometimes i wonder if that feeling is reciprocated.
The best thing about today was spending time with the bf. He makes me giggle.
Imagine living on your favorite food. For me, it would be ice cream! My favorite dish would have to be my dad's eggplant that he makes. It's so delish. In any case, i love love ice cream. So i guess that would be my food of choice to live on. For a british man, it would have to be Mars chocolate bars. He's a perfectly healthy 37 y.o, who just happens to consume Mars every breakfast, lunch and dinner for the last 17 years. In addition to Mars, he drinks OJ and takes vitamin supplements. He confessed that he was addicted in school; the addiction grew to consume his entire diet. [read more here] Isn't that amazing! He's got to have some health issues if he keeps on at this rate. I can barely eat a whole candy bar, much less eat it 24/7. As much as i love ice cream, i know i can't survive on only that. First of all, i'm lactose intolerant. If my diet was ice cream, i'd be on the toilet every other hour. Nasty.
