Older sister grumblings

Words to describe me older sister: mean, abrasive, rude, realistic. Why is it that she always upsets me? I went to walmart with her today because i needed to buy a couple of things for my project. After awhile we started talking about graduations and who comes after who. I told her about my NY plans for spring semester and how i want to buy a laptop. Then she starts saying how i don't need a car because i'll only need it for one semester. She says it's a waste to buy a new car since i'm going to spend half a school year on NY. NEWS FLASH: NY is not set in stone. Mom approved, but dad didn't give me the green light yet. I didn't even apply for the program to see if i would get it. It's all unpredictable. I'm just hoping everything works out. My sis said that there's no need for me to buy a car and that i could depend on other people for rides. Her rational is that she went without a car for the first two years of her college life and if she could do that, i can go one year without one. SECOND NEWS FLASH: i'm not a moocher! Most, if not all, of my friends are studying abroad. That and my roomie doesn't have a car. Who am i supposed to ask? She says that i should just make more friends. If it were that easy. Even if i made new friends, i can't just depend on them for a ride. I can't be a free-loader. I won't be a free-loader. The thing is, i don't thing getting a car is all that bad. If i go to NY for a semester, i'll just leave the car at home and my mom will drive it. Goodness knows she'll love driving around in a new car. About the laptop, i'm going to ask for one for christmas! So by that time, i'll already know about NY and stuff.

Regardless of what people say about blogs, i think it's a very helpful way for me to deal with stress. After writing about my sister, i feel less upset. I don't know what it is about today, but it's not so good. My friend had to defend her honors capstone at 11 this morning. What's the difference between a regular capstone and an honors capstone, you ask? Well, that's what i was wondering. I still don't have an answer, but i think it's supposed to be really intense research that requires the student to complete without the help of professors. So after my shower, i went to her presentation, but it wasn't pretty. Sometimes, i'm really grateful that i'm a communications major because i wouldn't be able to handle what she went through. Let me tell you this, she's one of the most hard working people i've ever met...and that's saying a lot. For three months, she did research on predation in schools of fish (mummichugs). Her research was funded by UNCF and MERCK, so it was pretty intense. The research fell through and she ended up having to write about why the research went sour. Poor thing, my heart poured out to her. She was so uncomfortable and frazzled about everything. By the end of her presentation, she opened the floor to questions and was bombarded by the panel. The panel consists of three professors that grade you on your capstone. Basically, if your research is sound, they pass you. I left a little before the presentation was over, but i caught her on my way to the lab and her face was so sad! She ended up crying because her presentation went so badly. She's afraid that her professors were going to fail her and that it was an overall awful performance. I'm afraid that if they fail her, she might not be able to graduation. It might be a bad case of nerves and exhaustion, but i think she'll be ok. Two of the professors on panel really like her. They know her and know that she's really dedicated. I hope they see that and pardon her. Sigh. This is a much needed ice cream moment!

My professor canceled a final and I don't have classes tomorrow! YAY! I went to a communication end of the year party. It was darling.

Don't you love LOVE stories? Bernie Peng reprogrammed Tammy Li's favorite video game, "Bejeweled," so a ring and a marriage proposal would show up on the screen when she reached a certain score. Li reached the needed score -- and said yes. Word of the romantic feat in December filtered out after Peng, a financial software programmer, posted details on his blog. The reprogramming was a tricky task and took him a month. [read more here] That's such a cute/nerdy way to propose!! Lets all sigh in unison.

Cute picture of the day.

Love-leaves!
