Baking.
Being domestic is possibly one of the hardest things I've ever tried. I refuse to be Paula Deen and stick in 2 sticks of butter for every meal. At this age, I'm very conscious of my health. I don't like having to weigh the consequences before I put something in my mouth, especially if I make it at home.
So I've been on a conquest to find good (healthy) baking recipes to fill up some of my free time. Interestingly enough, the only sweet thing I crave or consume is ice cream. I pass on my baking creations to passerby and brave souls that are willing to subject themselves to my concoctions.
There is a very short list of ingredients I refuse to use, one of them being butter. What are my possible substitutes besides margarine? A butter substitute for oil-based goodies: applesauce! It's a one to one ratio, but make sure to add in 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil.
Within the past week, I tried 3 different recipes: a vegan carrot cake, banana bread (w/ apples), challah bread. The cake was interesting, the bread could've been better, the challah bread was a disaster. I guess I shouldn't toy with the recipe. Too much deviation isn't necessarily good.
