Science is Magic
I am happy. It's my birthday! My day has been ok and definitely filled with love. I have my friends and family to thank :]. The sudden influx of "happy birthday" notes are a delight to wake up to (lol!). I read about this puppy (heart-kun) awhile back, but totally forgotten about it till now. The pup's owner has bred over 1000 pups in her lifetime and has never come across this incident. The pup has a very distinguished heart shaped mark on it's back. Too cute!
I've always been fascinated by science and its capabilities, i've just never been inclined to study it. That being said, i should never be surprised at what science accomplishes, because there is no set cap for progress. British scientists have found a way to create sperm sells from female embryo. This suggests the possibility for lesbian couples to have their own biological children. The University of Newcastle team is currently applying for permission to turn the bone marrow of a woman into sperm to fertilize an egg from her partner. [read more here] I'm a bit lazy to actually read the whole thing, but it's very interesting.
Since i've taken a turn and plunged into science, i'm moving on to the topic of diabetes. Sugar has never looked so cute and delectable. Or at least i think so. Diabetes is a disorder of the metabolism. Most of the food we eat is broken down into glucose, the main fuel source for the body. There are 3 main types -Type 1, Type 2, and gestational - of diabetes (i thought there was 2). For my interest, i'm going to focus on Type 1 and Type 2. In Type 1, the immune system attacks and destroys inculin-producing beta cells int eh pancreas. This means that the pancreas produces little to no insulin, thus a person must take insulin daily to live. In Type 2, the pancreas is usually producing enough insulin, but doesn't know how to use the insulin. After awhile, the insulin will decrease and will result in Type 1 diabetes.
On a lighter note, i love mane and tail shampoo. It works wonders! Now, i know why horses have beautiful hair! I hope everyone has a wonderful day today. I think tomorrow, i'll stray from the whole science topic. lol
