NY - Day One

- There are mean people out there...don't trust them.
- Put your money in your underwear...so that people won't steal them.
- Don't be friendly...this isn't Texas.

Three tips my parents drilled in me on the drive to the airport.

I was stupid and totally THOUGHT i forgot my I.D...so my dad drove home to look for my wallet. As i stood in line to get checked in, the officials were giving me a hard time because i had two carry ons and NO I.D. Seriously, how old am i to forget something so important? 10 min into the process, i found it at the bottom of my SUPER SECRET compartment in my purse. It's so super secret i freaken forgot about it. OH jeebus. It was miserable. At least I had a smile on my face, that made the whole situation a lot less tense. People were a lot more willing to help out and sympathize. It was nice. They let me keep foodies even though it was liquidy. When i met my sister on the other side, she greeted me with a big, "you're so stupid." OK - really??? We are delayed! What are we gonna do besides freaken sit on the chairs and wait?

My flight was delayed. Waiting is miserable. I finally arrived in NY at 7, but stupid baggage claim didn't release mmy luggage until...7:45. Holy dog, that's another wait. So when i stepped otuside to call a taxi...i saw SNOW and ICE and slipped. It was amazing. My first taxi experience was nice. It cost me 30 bucks though. BUT! - It was really sweet of everyone to either text or call to check up on me. I love my friends. When we dropped off our crap at the place...we walked around and ate real NY pizza. It was delish but very cold! My cheeks were red and my ears were in pain. I think my nose is dripping right now. Blah. I think it's going to be colder tomorrow? What?! Seriously, i'm spoiled by texas weather.

Since i'm interning, i'm living in a communal house. Holy crap, it's tiny! This is like...flashback to freshman year except even more intense. My freshman year dorm was pretty nice compared to this place. But who am i to complain? It's this or finding an apartment. It's really not that bad and i'm not really loathing the fact that i have to live here. It's just...where do i keep all my clothes? and shoes? There's like..nada closet space? AND there are bunk beds?! I haven't bunked in like forever. I seriously hope i arrive first so that i can claim bottom.

So many things to do...so little time. Actually, I have more time to myself because i don't have to interview anymore. YAY! I just have to meet with my NY advisor and then the day is mine! On the 23rd (?) i'm also meeting someone i've been waiting to meet after knowing her for 3 years! Crazy, yah? I think the hardest thing that i need to learn to adapt to is the freaken weather. It's so cold. And also being away from the things and people that i love. =[

Happy first day of NY.
It's 1 and i think i'm gonna sleep now.
